Metered Internet usage (also called "Usage-Based Billing") is coming to Canada, and it's going to cost Internet users. While an advance guard of Canadians are expressing creative outrage at the prospect of having to pay inflated prices for Internet use charged by the gigabyte, the consequences probably haven't set in for most consumers. Now, however, independent Canadian ISPs are publishing their revised data plans, and they aren't pretty.
If you're canadian you should vote against this. contact your nearest MP and tell them.

I'm surprised the Netflix's of the world aren't screaming about this metering.
ReplyDeleteHappy I'm not canadian
ReplyDeleteHeh, just when the UN called the internet a 'basic human right" and said they'd take action against states like Syria who take this right away from their citizens.
ReplyDeleteisn't this essentially a fee for freedom of expression?
man that sucks. metered internet usage would be like electricity companies lol.
ReplyDeleteI have an indy one. Real good. And it uses its own servers so it does not have to comply with the Bell and Rodgers monopoly.
ReplyDeleteWe have something similiar in America, after about 200 gigs a month, they charge you something outrageous like $10 for every 10 gigs after the cap.
ReplyDeleteThanks for informing us, keep it up!

this is slowly working its way to the us =(
ReplyDeleteThis is so depressing, And Brick's right this is slowly coming to the US :(. Let's enjoy our almost free internet while we can!
ReplyDeleteYep, here in the states it's just starting to happen. My provider has a "soft cap" of 250GB and after that they start throttling you and send you nice little messages telling you to tone down your usage. If you don't comply a certain number of times within 6 months, they cancel your service all together!
ReplyDeleteThe price per gigabyte of bandwidth keeps going down, so how can ISPs justify all of this?
